What Is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy (founded 1874) focuses on the concept that the body must be treated as a whole, evaluating & treating the causes of dysfunction, not just its symptoms. By helping a structural dysfunction in the body, you will in turn affect the physiological function.
Osteopathic Practitioners have the capacity to detect specific qualities in your tissues, such as tension, stiffness, resilience, hydration, congestion, mobility and motility. The ability to feel small changes in tissue health is our way of assessing and establishing priority in your treatment plan. We work on bones, muscles, fascia, nerves, organs and fluids (blood, lymph & cerebrospinal fluid). Our goal is to bring back harmony locally & globally to re-establish quality of movement and function throughout the body.
Craniosacral (CST) & Osteopathic Treatment for Infants:
In newborns, birth trauma that may have occurred from positional strains within the womb, compression or low velocity injuries from use of vacuum or cesarean birth, can create conditions such as torticollis, hip dysplasia, misshapen skull or other misaligned structures in the body. This can lead to pain, discomfort, sleep disruption, &/or breastfeeding issues. Tongue & lip ties can also cause latch difficulty and tensions in mouth & jaw. CST and Osteopathy can be beneficial for many of these infant concerns (as well as reflux, digestive complaints, sleep & behavioural concerns, motor delay, latch issues, etc.), and also can be helpful for children as they age, with new concerns developing.

“The inner wisdom of a fetus and an infant is every bit intelligent as that of an adult. It knows that its body needs to correct its dysfunctions. It knows why those dysfunctions are present. It has a softer voice than the adult inner wisdom, therefore, the Craniosacral Therapist must learn to listen more carefully. Once the connection is made, all the information you need will be forthcoming.”
